A feast of sound for Helmut Lachenmann

Friday, 23 June 2023

Five years ago, Helmut Lachenmann’s My Melodies received its celebrated world premiere by the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks and its eight horn soloists. In the intervening years, the composer widened the riverbed for the music’s powerful flow, expanded the architecture of the form and increased the virtuosity of the cadenza for the group of eight horns. Under the direction of Peter Eötvös, you can now experience the horn section and BRSO with the world premiere of the current 2023 version!

Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks

Soon after its founding in 1949 by Eugen Jochum, the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra (BRSO) developed into an internationally highly regarded orchestra. It was among the top ten orchestras worldwide in the orchestra rankings of the British trade magazine Gramophone (“The world’s greatest orchestras”) as well as in the Japanese music magazine “Mostly Classic”. Sir Simon Rattle will be the new principal conductor of the Bavarian Radio Chorus and Symphony Orchestra from the 23/24 season.

The orchestra regularly works with renowned conductors and soloists in its concerts in Munich as well as on tours worldwide and can look back on numerous CD releases and awards, including the GRAMMY in the category “Best Orchestral Performance” and the “German Record Critics’ Award”. The promotion of young musicians and the cultivation of new music are also among the orchestra’s core tasks.
