Gala Concert for the 75th Anniversary
of the BRSO
Sir Simon Rattle – “Gurre-Lieder”
There is something to celebrate: the BRSO turns 75! We are celebrating with two large-scale concerts on April 19 and 20. Schönberg’s Gurre-Lieder do not fit into any drawer. They barely fit on the stage! Over 300 performers, including the largest orchestra ever written for. This monumental work has only been performed three times in the history of the BRSO! For Sir Simon Rattle, the Gurre-Lieder are an old childhood love: “Sexy, elegant, sensual.” It is impossible that there could be a more fitting work for this gala.

Sir Simon Rattle and Timothy Ridout
Thursday / Friday: June 6 & 7, 2024
These concerts are a tribute by Sir Simon to former chief conductor Rafael Kubelík, who recorded Dvořák’s Slavonic Dances with the BRSO in 1982. Violist Timothy Ridout also makes his debut with Martinů’s Rhapsody Concerto. And finally, the brass gets to shine: Nine trumpets alone shine in Janáček’s Sinfonietta, which would certainly have established itself even without its famous solemn fanfare. Get your tickets now!
