Flute

Ivanna Ternay has been a member of the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks since the 2011 season.

A native of the Ukraine, she began her musical training when she was six years old at the “Mykon Lysenko” special school for music in her home town of Kiev. She then studied with Prof. Irmela Bossler at the Academy of Music and Theatre Leipzig. Four years later she transferred to Prof. Davide Formisano at the Music Academy in Stuttgart.

During this period she was the recipient of a grant from the Villa Musica and the Alfred Toepfer Foundation. She won several national and international flute competitions (Haifa, Moscow, Leipzig, Kiev), completed a period as orchestral trainee at the Municipal Theatre in Pforzheim and received two consecutive grants from the Ukrainian President’s Fund. In the spring of 2006 she received an award from the DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) for outstanding achievements by foreign students and a further grant from the “FTL Fund”.”

Ivanna Ternay supplemented her studies with a number of master classes, given by Jean-Claude Gérard, Peter-Lukas Graf, Sir James Galway, Jeanne Baxtresser, Andrea Lieberknecht, Renate Greiss-Armin, Gaby Pas van Riet and Maxence Larrieu. After a successful diploma she was accepted for post graduate studies at the Music Academy in Stuttgart in the solo class taught by Prof. Davide Formisano and completed this course in 2011 with another “cum laude”.

She was a member of the Bach Academy under Helmuth Rilling and played regularly in both the Stuttgart and South West German Chamber Orchestras. She was engaged as principal flutist in the Tyrolean State Theatre and the Symphony Orchestra of Innsbruck as well as the Bamberg Symphony. In the summer of 2010, she was a finalist in the 50th ARD International Music Competition and received the “BR-KLASSIK Prize”.
