Magdalena Hoffmann studied with Fabiana Trani, Skaila Kanga and Cristina Bianchi in Düsseldorf, London and Munich and won many prizes at national and international competitions, including two special prizes at the ARD Competition in Munich (2016). She perfected her skills in master-classes with Fabrice Pierre, Isabelle Moretti, Alice Giles, Isabelle Perrin and Milda Agazarian, among others.

A much sought-after chamber musician and soloist, she has appeared at such festivals as the Davos Festival and the Alpenklassik Festival and performed with musicians of the stature of Aleksey Igudesman, Karl-Heinz Schütz and Andrea Lieberknecht.

She has been the solo harpist of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra since 1 November 2018. Before then she spent four years in the Tyrolean Symphony Orchestra in Innsbruck and also played inter alia in the Munich Philharmonic, the West German RSO, the Düsseldorf Symphony and the Orchestre Symphonique de la Monnaie in Brussels. Her début CD, Footnotes, was released in September 2018.

In addition to these activities she turns time and again to interdisciplinary projects and is a practising artist. In 2014 she gave the première of her theatre concert Odyssee on 47 strings at the Swiss Harp Masters Festival, and in 2017 she contributed texts and illustrations to Aleksey Igudesman’s album Funny Animals (Universal Edition). She is also a cultural ambassador to the Casa Hogar Project, which takes up the cause of education and housing for girls in Columbia.

Magdalena Hoffmann teaches at the Tyrolean State Conservatory in Innsbruck.
