Andris Nelsons & Håkan Hardenberger
Programme change
Unfortunately, we need to change the first half of the programme on December 7 because of scheduling reasons. Instead of the originally planned programme with works for brass ensemble by Takemitsu, Shostakovich, and Tomasi, we will be offering “Four Black American Dances” by Carlos Simon and the trumpet concerto “Nobody Knows the Trouble I See” by Bernd Alois Zimmermann.

Information about the programme
Håkan Hardenberger’s teacher in Paris used to say that two lifetimes were not enough to master the trumpet. Yet the Swedish trumpeter has managed to do just that – so well, in fact, that The New York Times dubbed him the “best trumpet player in the galaxy.” In his performance of Bernd Alois Zimmermann’s Trumpet Concerto, he showcases an astonishing work that blends jazz, twelve-tone technique, grand symphonic elements, and spirituals. Other highlights of this concert, which will be conducted by Andris Nelsons, include Carlos Simon’s dance-inspired orchestral study Four Black American Dances, Richard Strauss’ cheeky symphonic poem Till Eulenspiegel’s Merry Pranks, and Maurice Ravel’s swirling La valse, a grotesque portrayal of Vienna.
