Esa-Pekka Salonen has unfortunately had to withdraw from these concerts due to a scheduling conflict. We are delighted that Sir Antonio Pappano will be able to take over the direction of the concerts with an unchanged programme.

Information about the programme

Mr. Levit, almost 75 minutes long, a large men’s chorus, and an immensely demanding piano part that is considered “not really rewarding.” What do you find particularly rewarding about Busoni’s Piano Concerto?
The obvious: the work itself. It is so voluptuous, so romantic, so beautiful, so lyrical, so exciting, so thrilling, so elegiac. The Tarantella blows the roof off the concert hall! It is crazy, colorful, and profound. Playing and listening to this work is a unique experience. Despite, or perhaps because of, all the challenges.

The piece has the reputation of being a curiosity. Is that justified?
It is not a curiosity. It is unique, and it is one of the most underrated masterpieces in music history that was composed by one of the greatest geniuses of all time!

The concert on the radio

BR-KLASSIK will broadcast the concert live on the radio on Thursday, 19 June 2025, from 8:03 pm.
