Chamber Concert · A tribute to Jan Koetsier
Programme
Information about the programme
When brass instruments converse, they create soundscapes that oscillate between brilliance and warmth. On the 20th anniversary of Jan Koetsier’s death, this chamber concert is dedicated to a composer who knew how to write for this family of instruments better than almost anyone else. Creating a bridge between tradition and modernity, his music is imbued with clarity, heart, and spirit. Hans Leo Haßler and Giovanni Gabrieli were the first composers to exploit the brilliance and warmth of brass instruments within church interiors in the 16th and 17th centuries. The contemporary composer Jörg Widmann builds upon this legacy with compositions that breathe, laugh, scintillate, and provoke. This is a concert that does not simply look back but rather establishes audible connections, honours Koetsier’s spirit, and demonstrates how vibrant music history can sound.
