Concert cancellation

Due to technical faults in the Residenz that occurred at short notice and could not be rectified, the concert on Saturday, 11 January 2025, with Herbert Blomstedt and the BRSO unfortunately had to be cancelled for safety reasons. We are incredibly sad that circumstances beyond our control have robbed us of a concert experience that we had been looking forward to so much together with our audience, the unique Herbert Blomstedt, wonderful soloists and our esteemed colleagues, including from the BR Choir. The inconvenience this caused our visitors is extremely unpleasant for us, but at the same time we would like to express our gratitude for the understanding shown by many people on site – despite their disappointment. Tickets will of course be refunded. You can return the tickets where you purchased them. If you have any questions, please contact BRticket on 089/5900-10880 (Mon, Tue, Thu, Fri 9 am – 4 pm).

Information about the programme

Among the many wonderful concerts this season, there is one that Sir Simon Rattle would particularly like to attend himself: Stravinsky and Mendelssohn, conducted by Herbert Blomstedt. The BRSO Chief Conductor has long admired Blomstedt (who has reached the impressive age of 97): “He’s like a splendid wine that only gets better with age,” says Rattle. “The last time I heard Lobgesang I was in my teens and still a mediocre timpani player. And although I couldn’t grasp its quality back then, I am convinced that Mr. Blomstedt will reveal the magnificence of this work – as he always does.” Hardly anyone conducts with such understanding and such humility. “He is such an inspiration!”
