Information about the programme
Steven Isserlis takes centre stage in Carl Frühling’s delightful trio presented in this Watch This Space concert. A light-hearted composition with lively contrasts and a touch of Viennese charm, it is both dance-like and serene in equal measure. György Kurtág’s Signs, Games and Messages is a collection of pieces for various solo instruments and small chamber ensembles that does not form a coherent cycle. Instead, the pieces can be played individually or in different ordering – and they attempt to say as much as possible in terms of expression and content with the fewest possible notes. The concert concludes with Vítězslav Novák’s Piano Quintet – idyllically folkloristic and strikingly original.
Christopher Patrick Corbett (clarinet), Lukas Maria Kuen (piano) and Steven Isserlis (cello).
