Johannes Brahms: Symphonies No. 2 & 3
Johannes Brahms’s two middle symphonies form a particularly contrasting pair that exemplifies the radius of Brahms’s tonal language, which is equally marked by poetry and the greatest constructive rigor. These two live recordings were made in Munich and Vienna – equally impressive testimonies, both interpretationally and sonically, to Mariss Janson’s deep understanding of Brahms’s equally warm-hearted and, at times, autumnally elegiac tonal language.
