Mariss Jansons – Gustav Mahler: Symphony No. 7

A recording of Gustav Mahler’s Seventh places the highest demands on the virtuoso skills of each individual orchestral musician. In order to create a magnificent whole out of the highly complex individual voices, this requires a conductor who unites the ensemble of individual musicians with soloist level in an overarching musical concept. How convincing Mariss Jansons and the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks were in the Munich concert was attested afterwards by the Süddeutsche Zeitung: “One listened to an orchestra that has obviously reached the pinnacle of its art.”
