Information about the programme
In Mary, the second part of the Annunciation triptych dedicated to female spirituality, Australian composer Liza Lim deals with “Mary’s Visitation by the Angel and the Passion Play”. Subtitled “Transcendence after Trauma”, the music revolves around incantation and divination, and is characterized by archaic sound fragments. The program also includes the premiere of Francesca Verunelli’s accordion concerto Accord, Chord and Tune, a work that remarkably synthesizes the sounds of an orchestra with those of the accordion. The solo accordion part will be performed by Krassimir Sterev. The third work on the program is Pascal Dusapin’s kaleidoscopic orchestral fantasy Morning in Long Island. The French composer was inspired by the sounds he heard on a cold, foggy night while visiting this popular destination in New York: standing on the beach, he watched the waves, listened to the birds and the music from a distant club – and later captured this nocturnal mood in a fascinating soundscape.
