David Santos Luque
David Santos Luque was born in Córdoba (Spain) in 2001. He started to study double bass being 5 years old with his teacher José Antonio Luque. He is currently studying at the Barenboim-Said Academy in Berlin with Gunārs Upatnieks and Nabil Shehata. Some important musicians who have influenced his career are Giuseppe Ettorre, Thierry Barbé, Ander Perrino, Edicson Ruiz, Antonio Torres, Ángel Santafé and Andrew Ackerman.
He is 1st prize winner of the International Sperger Competition for Double Bass in 2022, won the prize for “Best interpretation of a work of the 20/21th century” at the “VII Concurso Nacional de Jóvenes Intérpretes” in Cuenca and first prizes at competitions in Osuna and Jerez de la Frontera. Luque was a member of the European Union Youth Orchestra (EUYO), the Youth Orchestra of Spain (JONDE), the Youth Orchestra of Córdoba (OJC) and the Youth Orchestra of Andalusia (OJA). He has played in the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra and the Berlin Philharmonic. Since March 2023 he has been a member of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra (BRSO) .
As a soloist, he has played concertos by Hoffmeister, Koussevitzky and Bottesini and joined the ensemble of Anne-Sophie Mutter “Mutter’s Virtuosi” in 2023.
